Mind Body Soul exhibition Part 1: Preparing for a Big One.

In this post I have decided to give an overview of our experiences as traders at the Mind Body Soul exhibition at the Olympia. I want to discuss what undertaking a big show entails, and the amount of preparation involved. For the sake of narrative, and my own inability to construct an essay, I've decided to arrange this post like a ye olde school report, segmented this into three parts entitled rather usefully Before, During, and After. Part 1: Before. (Or preparing for the Big … [Read more...]

HST at the Mind Body Soul Exhibition

It's been a busy few months here at High Spirit Therapies.  Our next adventure is that we will be exhibiting at the Mind Body Soul experience at the Olympia in Earls Court over three days starting from Friday 25th of October. If you are not familiar, it is an exhibition that celebrates everything to to do with "complementary health, spiritual awareness and personal development", and we be selling our skincare and herbal tea blends, as well as Jo offering her massage … [Read more...]

Markets We Do: Hampstead

This is the entrance to Hampstead Sunday Market. Snuggled away in the Community Centre on Hampstead High Street, it's the place to be when looking for unusual, high quality goods and friendly chatter. The market has been running for over thirty years, and some of the traders have been there since the begining, as have some of the regular visitors. This makes for jolly, familial atmosphere, and one which makes it a pleasure for us to trade in. The gentleman in this photo is Steve. Not only … [Read more...]

Life Gets In The Way….

One of the promises I made about this blog was that I would be candid about the ups and downs of running a fledgling business. It's not always successful and brilliant and things will invariably go wrong, so you either try to manage those problems or let them overtake you. The hardest lesson we have learned in the last couple of months about running a business, and one of the main reasons for the lack of posts and activity, is when 'real life' suddenly gets in the way. To put this into … [Read more...]

The Perils of Being a Trader Part 1: The Weather.

The guy on the left is Richard Hurley, one of my oldest friends. I've known him for thirty years. He was helping out at our stall whilst we traded at a Charity Summer Fair in Sellincourt School, which we both went too back in the 80's. In the photo below, standing next to him is my Dad, who was also helping out that day. It gave both of them an opportunity to have a go at selling our skincare, herbal teas and the massage treatments. Unfortunately, it also happened to be a hideously windy … [Read more...]

In Praise of Pop-ups

Pop-up markets can be a great way to promote you business, get a few extra sales in and test the water with a new product. It's also a excellent networking opportunity as you meet traders and potential customers who you would never normally reach. We recently traded at the rather lovely Wonder Hill market, a Pop-Up event that took place in The Tooting  Tooting Tram and Social Pub. We've done Wonder Hill Market events before, mainly because they are so well organised, but this was the first … [Read more...]

Welcome to my first post

I've been running High Spirit Therapies with my partner, Jo Simon, for about four years, and I thought it was about time I started blogging about my experiences of running a fledgling business. I will try to be as candid as possible about the many ups and downs we've experienced along the way, and perhaps be a source of inspiration and help for those who are attempting the same thing. To give you a bit of background, Jo is a Clinical Massage Therapist, and she quit her job about 5 years ago … [Read more...]
